Reforestation
As part of our ongoing commitment to ecological restoration and conservation, Rock ‘n Renew has been hard at work planting trees, clearing invasive species, and restoring 3 ancient and vital forest preserves on Hawai’i Island. Rock ‘n Renew students from all over the U.S take part in hands-on ecological restoration projects that connect what they are learning in the classroom to the actual work of repairing local ecosystems. The Hawai’ian rain forest and dry forest ecosystems are among the most endangered ecosystems on Earth.

Through Rock ‘n Renew’s Island To Island exchange program, students from all over the U.S are using Skype and iChat to interact with students in Hawai’i to collaborate on restoration and agriculture projects. During the SpringĀ of 2012 students from NYC will visit Hawai’i and students from Hawai’i will visit NYC during the Summer of 2012.
We all need clean air to skate, clean water to surf, and snow to ride. For those of us who pursue boardsports, protecting the planet is about the environments we use everyday. It was becoming obvious that the boardsports industry, which relies on a healthy environment to succeed, needed to get more involved with protecting the planet.
Arbor is a company that does just that. Since 2008, Rock ‘n Renew has received a portion of the 5% of profit that Arbor donates to environmental organizations. Rock ‘n Renew is working with Arbor to restore ancient Hawai’ian forests through the planting of native Koa trees, invasive species removal, and other reforestation methods.
