LEARN. EXPLORE. ACT. Rock n Renew teaches sustainability in a way that resonates with youth culture. We bring musicians and green experts into schools together to get students excited about environmental issues while providing them with in-depth information and facts on ecology, energy, and conservation. A range of projects are possible depending on the grade levels, size, and needs of your school. Students can research energy concepts and survey their homes to determine how they can make changes to decrease CO2 and increase end-use efficiency. They can study curriculum about their local ecology, examining what types of wildlife and plants are native to their neighborhood. Once these lessons have been discussed in the classroom, students take field trips to one of Rock 'n Renew's ecological restoration sites to see how these ideas are put into practice.Rock 'n Renew also has an urban farming program that teaches students to grow their own food at several Rock 'n Renew Ecology Center locations in NYC, NJ, and on the Big Island of Hawai'i. Through the Rock n Renew program, students are given the opportunity to take action. Through visual art, music, journalism, poetry, business mentoring, science experiments, gardening projects, sustainable cooking activities, and community events, Rock n Renew is showing students of all ages the power of collective action and the importance of caring for our shared planet. The Rock n Renew Presentation Iggy Pop meets Al Gore. That's the best way to describe the unique and spirited work of Jonny Dubowsky, lead singer of the popular rock band Jonny Lives!, and founder of Rock 'n Renew, a non-profit organization that educates students from kindergarten through college about global warming and the sustainability of our planet. Jonny Dubowsky's live presentations are charged with the energy you'd expect from one of rock's newest stars. Based on the idea that small personal actions can have a large social impact, Dubowsky first points to the wasteful attitudes and decisions that are harming the planet, and then engages audiences with sustainable solutions that they can walk home with and act on immediately. Drawing on current breakthroughs in the green revolution and on his incredible experiences with Jonny Lives! and Rock 'n Renew, this interactive talk is both fun and serious, and reminds us of the considerable power that young people wield, as both consumers and as citizens. Dubowsky, a charismatic and highly personable speaker, shows us how, with enough people working individually and collectively, we can significantly improve the health of our planet. He ends his speeches with a special acoustic performance and an always passionate and informative Q&A session. Jonny lectures to students of all ages, from college students who have advanced knowledge of biology and politics, to first graders who enjoyed Happy Feet. Rock 'n Renew adjusts the depth and scope of each lecture to effectively reach each grade level. Working with concepts and curriculum elements inspired by the NRDC, The Land Trust Alliance, The Land Conservation Fund, and other respected environmental groups, Rock 'n Renew gives students and teachers the tools they need to protect our precious natural resources. The lecture will introduce students to sustainable concepts, give practical tips that can be implemented that very day, and leave the audience better-educated and inspired to do their part to make the world green.
